A Trailer on Fire

John Gaunt This is a chilling, bleak album that relates the hidden and not-so-hidden horrors of rural life for those who do not fit in. That's an overgeneralization, but the song lyrics are specific and real enough that the listener can feel the pain and hopelessness. The vocal version of the album adds the human voice to a human story. Not for the faint of heart. Favorite track: Ghosts at the Yard Sale.

Hell House 03:23
Locking eyes through the window pane I watch them wince and they turn away Guess I’m not good enough to save But I’m half dead anyway Our neighbors never wave I guess I don’t behave But I’m half dead anyway Even trash has a place to stay I’m trapped in a hell house, can’t get out In a karmic jail house, bail me out I won’t live to see the next sundown If I spend another night in this goddamn house I’m trapped in a hell house, can’t get out In a karmic jail house, bail me out I won’t live to see the next sundown If I spend another night in this goddamn house I go to sleep on a bed of fleas My home a kingdom of disease Man of the house - you must not displease One wrong turn can risk everything This name doesn’t feel like mine Feels like I’m fucked up by design I feel abandoned by the divine Most days I’d rather fucking die I’m trapped in a hell house, can’t get out In a karmic jail house, bail me out I won’t live to see the next sundown If I spend another night in this goddamn house I’m trapped in a hell house, can’t get out In a karmic jail house, bail me out I won’t live to see the next sundown If I spend another night in this goddamn house I am just a sweet nothing Single serving, consume me Free to use, do anything A simple, fragile, broken thing I am just a sweet nothing Single serving, consume me Free to use, do anything A simple, fragile, broken thing

Make Nice 03:40
You’re hanging on A gallow’s noose Of family ties Bound with abuse You can’t fight back It’s not the time You’ve got to put The past behind Commune coerced The family’s curse Chained in place By unspoken words You feign alright You bide your time You swear your love Through bitter smiles And make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice I barely touched you You’ll be okay Can’t tell nobody What would they say? Our family secrets Go to the grave Sit down for dinner And please behave And make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice Make nice

Alone 03:53
Bound by mortal sin I will not repent What I wouldn’t give To climb out of this skin I refuse to live Among my vermin kin I do not fit in The bond does not exist I belong alone Alone, alone Alone alone Alone alone I belong alone Alone, alone Alone alone Alone alone This is not my home No, no, no I walk this Earth alone Alone, alone, alone This is not my home No, no, no I walk this Earth alone Alone, alone, alone Changeling child I am Black sheep, I’ll be damned God’s not in this land God don’t give a damn We’re the left behind Tooth for tooth And eye for eye No trust, no love remains So all we know to do Is thrive off pain I belong alone Alone, alone Alone alone Alone alone I belong alone Alone, alone Alone alone Alone alone This is not my home No, no, no I walk this Earth alone Alone, alone, alone This is not my home No, no, no I walk this Earth alone Alone, alone, alone

Death in small amounts Violence of the South The God we shouldn’t doubt Is nowhere to be found Deep and salted wounds Drown beneath the moon Death is near, the end is soon A tragic end to family feuds It’s all burning down Curse this fucking town It’s all burning down Curse this fucking town My will to live just Can’t be found It all means nothing Burn it all down Should never been here End it all now Cleanse the cycle Burn it all down My will to live just Can’t be found It all means nothing Burn it all down Should never been here End it all now Cleanse the cycle Burn it all down I told you he would do it Too late to stop it now The flames are all consuming Do you believe me now? I got it all in writing Did all the court allows Was no exaggeration The blood is on you now I told you he would do it Too late to stop it now The flames are all consuming Do you believe me now? I got it all in writing Did all the court allows Was no exaggeration The blood is on you now Death in small amounts Violence of the South The God we shouldn’t doubt (God the greatest clown) Is nowhere to be found Deep and salted wounds Drown beneath the moon Death is near, the end is soon A tragic end to family feuds It’s all burning down Curse this fucking town It’s all burning down

Take a look See what you like Don’t matter where It comes from right? See these knives What would you pay? Of course they’ve Only been on display Southern comfort, easy life It all comes at a hefty price Hustles built on stolen lives I’ll rob the grave to get what’s mine Oh, oh Fire sale, it all goes now But no returns after sun down Oh, oh Fire sale, it all goes now But no returns after sun down Don’t you dare touch me Leave me alone If you know what’s good for you You won’t take me home Can’t you feel that A curse has been thrown I cannot be cleansed I will not be owned Stolen heirlooms Grave-robbed bones Murder weapons Put on show From most macabre To most benign All trinkets here Deceive by design If chairs could talk If chests could cry The stories they’d tell Would terrify Marooned in death And trapped by spite Our hapless souls Linger afterlife

A plague on all your homes! Left to die, I rot alone A plague on every soul! May every heart turn into stone! If I shall not find rest Then so mote it be with you May devils stalk your fetid yards A storm upon a house of cards

Ghost Town 03:55
Never thought I’d come back here A barren wasteland despite the years Nothing’s changed, it’s like time stops The only sign it hasn’t are the withering crops Roadkill pockmarks the stretches of road A straight shot through Hell where the morals erode Rest stops abandoned, motels covered in mold A broken down, ghost town, lost and disposed Left turn on a dirt road Covered by trees No streetlights by nightfall It’s less than friendly It took my early years And yet it still ain’t no kin I could never fit in And yet I’m back here again Pull into the trailer park What do I see? A dozen, judging eyes Staring right back at me A shotgun on the shoulders Spitting chew in the dirt Ain’t no welcome party coming Just intentions to hurt Never thought I’d come back here A barren wasteland despite the years Nothing’s changed, it’s like time stops The only sign it hasn’t are the withering crops Roadkill pockmarks the stretches of road A straight shot through Hell where the morals erode Rest stops abandoned, motels covered in mold A broken down, ghost town, lost and disposed No, no, no, no Oh, no, no, no No, no, no, no Oh, no, no, no

about

"A Trailer on Fire" is a Southern Gothic folk album inspired by the real events of my past and the past of my loved ones. Many travesties happen behind the closed doors of Southern homes. The album is set loosely in the rural parts of North Carolina.
